BBC Radio Wales Interviews Gill

.
Good Morning Wales: between 57.15 mins and 100 mins. ("100 million dollars", David?)

UPDATE 23/6/11:
What David actually said (I am not sure how long the programme will be available online) is:
[0:58.16 secs] Presenter: "There is a pretty big black market in these artefacts then?"
Dr David Gill: "We are not actually sure how large this sort of illicit market is. We think antiquities are worth something like a hundred million dollars a year worldwide and there is a percentage of that derived from material that has come up in recent years - so people going out in the middle of the night digging things up and then selling them on. That in itself is probably worth fifty, sixty million a year, but that is very hard to quantify. These are criminal acts". [0:58.54 secs].

This is an area of huge debate and we have been undertaking research in this area. Is the annual value of sales worth $1 billion (plus)? I do not think so. Can you base the annual value on the stock in the warehouses linked to Symes, i.e. as a snapshot? Perhaps, but has the market changed since then?
So $100 million could be a low estimate. Is it worth slightly more? Is this an average over several years?
Best wishes
David

Can I invite your readers to join the debate here? There is also a mini poll on Looting Matters.
